Fabulous Wine Tastings at Home

Wine tastings at home are a lot of fun. They are also educational, and a great reason to get some friends together to chat it up and explore your palate. In other words: A guaranteed good time.

My heritage and my passion for wine has led me to pursue an in depth education of different wines.  My passion for teaching and knack for event planning has led me to perform wine tastings for my clients, who enjoy a good time, and good wine.

To our followers in the greater Portland, OR area, all you have to do is choose a date (I typically suggest Friday or Saturday night, for obvious reasons), invite 6-12 people to your house for a wine tasting, prep some snacks*** and I will take care of the rest of the details!  I always bring with me 6+ bottles of wine for tasting from all over the world, in order to provide a wide variety of tastes and varietals.

I will personally walk you through the how-to’s of tasting, including: how to look like a pro, what you are looking for, and how to find out what type of wines you prefer and vice-versa.  I also find that the tastings provide an excellent opportunity for you and your guests to ask a lot of those questions about wine that have always baffled you! All you have to do send the invite, sit back and enjoy the flavors and the company. And who knows…  Maybe you’ll expand your knowledge on wine in the process too.

***If you are unsure what you think would be best for the palate ding the tasting, here are some great options to keep in mind (remember to keep your foods light and easy):

Cheeses: 2-3 varieties

  • Mild: Brie, Teleme, or Jack
  • Medium: Havarti, Gouda, or Edam
  • Strong Blue: Gorgonzola or Stilton

Crackers, French bread, Italian bread

Fresh Fruit: Grapes and Strawberries

Assorted Chocolates (dark, milk, white)

To wine lovers everywhere, cheers to 2011!

Celebrating Oktober!

Oktoberfest: A fabulous German celebration that is cherished worldwide by those who love beer, good food and a great time with friends.

Widmer held their Oktoberfest in Portland this past Saturday, and it was so much fun!  Between eating delicious chicken schnitzel wraps and drinking an assortment of delicious beers, we could not help but think of a fabulous Oktoberfest themed house party! You can make it as simple or as chic as you’d like to, but we recommend going simple and interesting.

If you have a backyard, decorate it with some Bavarian themed decor (white and blue colors), and add some creative touches, such as beer mugs as flower vases, etc.

Naturally, no Oktoberfest celebration is complete without some delicious beer, so make sure you and your guests bring an assortment of your favorite styles, and share your beer preferences! As for snacks, the traditional and delicious options include sauerkraut, wurst, weinerschnitzel, kielbasa, crispy potato pancakes (served with applesauce and sour cream, yu-mmy!) and apple strudel or German chocolate cake for dessert. Also, serving some bread next to the beer will be a delicious addition to the decor and the meat snacks.

You can also play some fun games, and hold a best costume contest, along with the [almost necessary] beer competition.

Cheers!

What Kind of Events Can A Party Planner Help With?

What Types of Events Can A Coordinator Plan?

WEDDINGS:
In & Out of State Weddings, Beach Weddings, Destination Weddings,
Home & Military Weddings, Religious and Civil Ceremonies, Commitment Ceremonies,
Second Marriages, Last Minute Weddings, Vow Renewals

They also often take care of supplimental services such as:

  • Guest List & Invitations
  • Parties, Showers & Rehearsal Dinners
  • Guest Itinerary Planning, Accommodations and Transportation
  • Thank You Notes & Gifts
  • Honeymoon Planning

PARTIES:
Birthdays, Holiday Parties, Baby & Bridal Showers, Engagement Parties,
Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties, Graduations, Grand Openings, Retirements,
Family Reunions, Dinner Parties, and much more!

Whether you are putting on a birthday party for a loved one, or getting ready to celebrate an occasion in your life, a party planner can help take the stress out of the process. How many times have you been to a party where the host never gets to sit down? How many dinner or holiday parties have you thrown where you don’t even get to talk to your guests because you are so busy with managing the details? We hate seeing this happen! …and, then there’s the dishes. It can be overwhelming at times. This is where we come in.

CORPORATE EVENTS:
Conferences, Seminars & Meetings, Trade Shows, Grand Openings & Re-Openings,
Cocktail Parties & Luncheons, Award Ceremonies, Holiday Events,
Team Building, Incentive Trips, Retreats, Last Minute Events, Luncheons,                                             Award Shows, Non-Profit Galas, Charity Fundraisers, Fashion Shows, Fairs/Festivals, Holiday Festivities, Rallies, Parades

How valuable is 8-12 hours of your time? The reason we ask this is simple: 8-12 hours is the average time spent planning a straightforward event. If you are planning a corporate event, you will spend hours of research, planning time, time on phone calls, and all of the time you spend planning that event is money out of your pocket.

PRIVATE EVENTS
Proposals, Romantic Evenings, Wine Tastings & Wine Education,
Vow Renewals, Funerals, Fundraisers, Out of Town Events, Family Reunions,
. . If you can dream it, we can do it!

In essence, whatever you are planning, you might find yourself in need of a little extra help. Let Muse be your inspiration and your answer to your planning woes.

Organization, Organization, Organization

An event is a fickle thing. You create it. You “train” its participants (vendors, exhibitors, guests). You plan it out to the very last detail. You spend time, energy and money making certain everything will go according to plan. And despite all you do, an event, whether it is a wedding, a corporate event, or a birthday party will never treat you the way you deserve after all that effort. Inevitably, things will go wrong. It’s Murphy’s Law. murphy1

But, never fear, there is a solution. The fix really is in the planning, although no magazine, vendor, or friend will tell you all the things that can go wrong. Not because they want your event to fail, but simply do not want you to worry, and they want the event you have put so much of yourself into to turn out perfectly. So, if nobody will tell you what types of things go wrong, how can you plan for them? Good question.

You first solution is to hire professional that know their businesses. They will forsee issues that might arise and should take steps to prevent them from happening.

The second is to somehow figure out a list of things that could go wrong. . . then get those issues fixed previous to them actually becoming issues at all. Professional planners can assist with this, as can talking to vendors frankly about any issues they might have noticed. If you are convinced you want to do it yourself or have a friend take care of it (after reading our earlier post: http://eventmuse.biz/blog/?p=200), you can do some research on your own about the things that go wrong in weddings and take steps to secure those details for your big day. Remember, you have to think down to the smallest details. For instance…Who is going to have your cell phone for when people get lost and call for directions? Do the arrival times of the vendors conflict with anything? Who is bustling your dress & do they know how? What guests are you expecting issues from and how will they be prevented? So on & so forth.

Need help? Just ask!
